Radiologic Technology Program:

Program entry requirements, accreditation, and more

Garrett College’s Radiologic Technology program is competitive and has selective admissions. It runs on a two-year cycle, with new students starting in the summer of odd-numbered years. Please note that being accepted to Garrett College does not guarantee admission to the Radiologic Technology program. Below are the important details and steps you need to know.

Program Eligibility Requirements

Garrett College’s Radiologic Technology program is a selective admission program with specific eligibility requirements. Acceptance to Garrett College does not guarantee entry into the program.

To be considered for the program, applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years old by September 1
  • Pass a drug screening and criminal background check including fingerprinting
  • Meet one of the following academic criteria:
    • Unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 or higher, including grades of C or better in Biology, Chemistry, and Math
    • OR 12 earned college credits of general education courses, including English and math, and unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
    • OR ACT composite score of 21 or higher
    • OR SAT scores of at least 480 in Reading and 530 in Math
  • Demonstrate readiness for Anatomy and Physiology I by earning a grade of C or better in the prerequisite course (BIO101 or BIO104) or by passing the Biology Placement Assessment.
  • Achieve minimum scores on the ACT® WorkKeys® Assessments: Level 5 in Applied Math, Level 5 in Workplace Documents, and Level 4 in Graphic Literacy
  • Complete at least 8 hours of observation in a hospital-based imagining department
  • Have reliable transportation to and from clinical sites
  • Provide documentation of medical insurance, healthcare provider CPR certification, and a recent physical exam with required immunizations.

Note: Requirements may change. The College reserves the right to revise program and admission standards.

Program Application Process

The application process has three phases, and candidates are notified after each phase. Final selection is based on meeting requirements and a weighted review of academic performance, ACT® WorkKeys® scores, an interview, and a writing sample. PHASE 1: Application & Required Materials (Deadline: March 31)
  1. Apply for general admission to Garrett College (gt5cheats.com/applynow)
  2. Order official copies of prior learning credentials, including transcripts from all prior colleges, be sent to the GC Admissions Office. (Previous GC students do NOT need to order Garrett College transcripts.) To be eligible for the Radiologic Technology program, your documentation must meet one of the following:
    • High school transcript with unweighted GPA of 3.0 or higher, including grades of C or better in Biology, Chemistry, and Math
    • OR College transcript with 12 earned credits of general education courses, including English and math, and unweighted cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
    • OR ACT composite score of 21 or higher
    • OR SAT scores of at least 480 in Reading and 530 in Math
  3. Submit the Radiologic Technology Program application (available online in February 2025), along with a non-refundable $30 program application fee.
  4. Take the following ACT® WorkKeys® National Career Readiness Assessments and achieve the required scores: Applied Math with a minimum score of Level 5, Workplace Documents with a minimum score of Level 5, and Graphic Literacy with a minimum score of Level 4.
  5. Demonstrate readiness for Anatomy and Physiology I by earning a grade of C or better in the prerequisite course (BIO101 or BIO104) or by passing the Biology Placement Assessment.
  6. Complete at least 8 hours of observation in a hospital-based imagining department. Suggested sites include:

Application and all materials must be received by March 31st for full consideration. The application fee must be paid before processing begins.

PHASE 2: Interview & Writing Sample (April/May)

Selected Phase 1 candidates will be invited to campus to submit a writing sample and participate in an interview with the selection committee. These candidates will need to complete fingerprinting and background checks prior to their interview (instructions will be included with the invitation).

PHASE 3: Conditional Acceptance Documents due May 15

Selected Phase 2 candidates will receive notification of conditional acceptance. Documentation of the following must be received by May 15 for final consideration.

All requirements must be completed and documentation received by May 15. Formal program acceptance will be communicated by June 1.

Approval & Accreditation

Garrett College has received Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) approval to begin the program.

The program is in the process of applying for initial accreditation with the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic (JRCERT).
